Eligibility

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and other document services are available free of charge for:

Types of Materials

Most types of material including articles, books, or other media may be ordered via our document services provided they meet the following criteria:

Some types of materials that cannot be ordered include: Textbooks, materials on reserve in the library, recreational reading, genealogical materials, and whole journal issues.

Notification and Status of Requests

Status of Orders: The status of your Interlibrary Loan (ILL) orders is available when you logon to Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and click on "Outstanding Orders". The status of Circuit, holds, and IVC orders can be found by viewing Your Circ Record from the library's catalog The PAC.

Notification: You'll be notified by email or regular mail when books are available for pickup at the Circulation Desk. Photocopies will be delivered to you either electronically or to your home or campus address on file with Interlibrary Loan.

New Email Address or Other Contact Information?

For Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Orders: You may make changes to your email address or mailing address on file with ILL by logging on to Interlibrary Loan and clicking on "Change User Information".

For Other Library Notices: Faculty and staff can report email address changes to the library Circulation Desk and other changes such as mailing address to the Center for Human Resources. Students need to update their email address or mailing address via the university's e-services page at https://sunspot.sdsu.edu/portal/


Delivery and/or Pickup of Materials

Photocopies: Photocopies will be delivered to you electronically or mailed to your home or campus address on file with Interlibrary Loan. You can view your electronically delivered articles by logging on to Interlibrary Loan and clicking on "Electronically Received Articles".

Books: All books are held for pickup at the SDSU Library Circulation Desk or the IVC Library Circulation Desk. You may change your pickup location by clicking on "Change User Information" after logging on to Interlibrary Loan. Your SDSU ID card will be required for checkout.

Charges

There are no charges for any of these services. Overdue fines and billing fees will be charged for books which are kept past due dates. For more details, please see Overdues and Billing below.


Returning Materials


Overdues and Billing

In order to maintain good relationships with other libraries, it is very important that books we borrow from them be returned on time. Most ILL books can be renewed (before the due date) by clicking on "Checked out ILL Books" after logging on to Interlibrary Loan. Circuit and IVC books can be renewed from Your Circ Record. See the table above for renewal limits. Overdue fines vary depending on the service used, but a non-negotiable $15 billing fee is assessed on all overdue books at 10 days past the due date. Fines for books borrowed from other libraries are as follows:
